Windsor Hill Wood Refuge charity is a residential refuge set in 10 acres of woodland, on the edge of Shepton Mallet in Somerset, offering a supportive, nature-based recovery programme. We support adults with complex needs through the provision of a safe, therapeutic environment for up to around 80 adults each year, helping them recover and rebuild their lives. We live out a vision to offer Christian hospitality and support to people of all faiths and none who, due to a current crisis, a past trauma or some other need including history of offending and addiction recovery, seek refuge in our small, woodland community. Those of our guests who have issues with addiction are supported with their ongoing treatment and external support. We are a completely ‘dry’ site and have a zero tolerance of anyone drinking alcohol or using non-prescription drugs whilst staying with us. Our guests engage in daily activities such as woodland management, carpentry, animal care, and growing their own food, cooking for each other and eating all meals together. We also have weekly volunteering opportunities for around 40 local people.
Our Woodland Studio is a new, rustic meeting space that we are offering for hire at £15 per hour for meetings, team-building days, workshops and therapeutic activities.
The space can comfortably sit up to 14 people. We have facilities for making refreshments, there’s WiFi and plenty of electrical sockets and a projector and screen can be provided on request. We have heating and outside there is a seating area with fire pit and a rustic outdoor sink with cold running water and a brand new modern eco-friendly compost loo for exclusive use of hirers.
There is limited parking for up to 6 cars and very close proximity to the Windsor Hill Tunnels footpath and Community Woodland to take time out for a stroll!
Please note that, as a woodland site, we do not offer full disabled access – there is a small uphill woodland path about 25 metres from the car park.
Also, very importantly, we are a strictly alcohol and non-prescription drug-free site.
If you would like to book the space, or to talk to us about looking around, please email our wardens
